Rainy Days

The kids were ready for a break.
Summer has been fun with lots of energy, fun, and excitement.
But the kids needed a break.
Cue the Rainy Day. 
Swimming lessons? No time in the pool today kids! Let's watch a safety video instead!
Parents, you can sit outside, listen to the quiet roar of the rain on the patio roof, and smell the sweet aroma of the first summer rain.


Boredom?  You can come back another day.  There are crafts the kids have been waiting for a rainy day to try.

Nap time? Eh, let the kids relax, tucked in on the couch for a while.

After dinner fun? Puddle jumping time, muddy toes, and practice riding new bikes.



No rushing, no big agendas; just a rainy day.

Thanks Summer.  We needed that.

Pass the chocolate

School was in session for the Garner household today.  Mom played the role of tutor, proctor, lunch lady, counselor, tech support, and administrative assistant.  I am sure we will hit our stride in the coming weeks, but this evening Mom needed to self-medicate with some chocolate goodness. The afternoon was a bit better. The sun came out and the kids had fun just digging holes in the garden.  Good 'clean' fun.  We didn't go on our daily walk, as emails of homework kept rolling in.  Hopefully tomorrow we will make it outside a bit.  I think mom needs it as much as the kids. The youngest went back to daycare.  This evening he was really fussy.  I think he missed being home with Mom; although he had a great day at school.  Plans are in place for extra cuddles at bedtime.

Let's all be well

We made it a full week.  But this is just the beginning.  Numbers of those ill are increasing. Death reports are now to 4 in Indiana, but much higher elsewhere.  We still have a sense of bubble here, but the county is claiming a public health disaster in an effort to secure funding for later relief. Instead of the usual "Have a nice day", I have taken to saying "Be well". I am praying for the expectant mother's I am supporting.  Birth is uncertain enough without this added stress. We continue to organize the house for better function.  A cleared back porch and unneeded items out of the basement help towards the cause.  Tomorrow is Sunday, so I hope for a day of rest and restoration. Art is a universal way of expression and comfort.  The kids enjoyed participating in a community chalk drawing.  Everyone visited at different times to complete the rainbow.  The translation is "Let's all be well." Finding the Happy Place

Today our family was in our happy place.  We were all home and in one place for the holiday.  No particular plans besides finding ways to beat the heat.  After a traditional Garner Breakfast (a.k.a. pancakes and Spam) the kids tossed out ideas of what adventure to have that day.  We soon settled on going to Prophetstown for a picnic then time at the Aquatic Center.  Naps almost guaranteed when we returned home. The picnic was a short one. How can you compete with the excitement of the first swimming pool visit of summer?  We weren't the only ones excited.  The line for the pool was out the door and into the parking lot 15 minutes before they even opened. Our daughter was so excited to find out she was tall enough to ride the water slides this year.  She had waited two summers for this moment.  No fear at all as we climbed the stairs.  Her confidence eased my nervousness and the ride down was so fun!  As soon as we finished she was ready to go again.
