What day is it?

Image
A routine is forming here.  School, playtime, homework, chores, etc.  The days still vary though, which make it hard to keep track.  My eldest came racing down the stairs this morning in a panic after I had let him sleep in. He was convinced he had class at 9 this morning when it was actually his off day. yes, keeping track of the days is still a challenge around here. We were able to get away for a little while between Zoom meetings and homework requirements. The smell of Summer was in the air as we weathered on the sunscreen and bug spray. It was good to hike the trail at Prophetstown. They were not quite as many people out compared to the last time we went. But I would say there was still at least 30 people we saw while we were there, plus more cars. I heard good advice today for some things to strive for. Stay hydrated, have a routine, do something each day, get exercise, connect with someone.  I am doing better with some things than other...

Another journey through summer

Image
We found out today that our journey through Covid-19 has truly become a journey through summer.  The state of Indiana has declared that the rest of the school year will be virtual.    https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2020/04/02/coronavirus-indiana-schools-closed-through-end-academic-year/5110846002/ I know the alternative could be more devastating, but it still doesn't soften the shock and dismay of the news.   Home lessons are not all bad for day two, but we still are having tantrums and frustrations.  Even Luke is having a hard time coping.  My chill dude had a meltdown in the middle of our bike ride tonight.  I almost cried myself as I rocked and comforted my five year old on the sidewalk. The world can't hide from itself forever.  We will eventually be able to reach out and commune in person.  The question is will we remember how and will we want to?  Will we walk closer on the sidewalk?...

Marching past March

Image
Do you remember the first of March? I think we were all surprised by the sunshine.  In like a lion, out like a lamb.  We were all taught to expect the rough hard times before the calm and peace of April.  The month of March seemed backwards this year.  Now going into April, I don't know what to expect. Tomorrow we start school again.  E-learning is a new venture for our family.  Luke will hopefully return back to his learning as well.  He has enjoyed the extra time at home, but today he asked for some school time.  I think he is ready. On a side note, we have been enjoying the Cincinnati Zoo Home Safari videos.  Today we learned about the Bearcat.  Check it out when you have a chance.  If we ever get a chance to travel again, the kids would like to go and visit.

Spring is here and School is coming

Image
Sometime the pictures I took throughout the day are the best summary. Today was Anna's first try with Zoom and her class.  I may be wrong, but this may be a long month of learning in our household. Local playground taped off to prevent kids from playing. Sigh. Spring is showing her colors.  I walked over a mile by myself this evening.  Glad for the break before the work of school begins.

It helps to be busy...

Little victories of the day. 1. I kept my shoes on all day.   2. Daughter willingly finished a book of her choice that wasn't Captain Underpants. 3. Kids played together for almost an hour while John and I watched the news together.  This hasn't happened in a long time, but was much needed. 4. Passed our first screening when going to Anna's therapy appointment. 5. Found toilet paper at Aldi when I stopped for some missed items. The week is blending together.  They say the first day of spring is tomorrow.  Being so used to spring starting on the 20th, I thought tomorrow was Friday.  Oh well.  Maybe we will celebrate tomorrow with some April showers puddle jumping. We are finding ways to keep busy.  School work will be done when the students are ready.  I am continuing to explore my Aromatherapy with revised hair care and skin recipes. Anna made a sock bunny family. I have many books that I could be reading, ...
