Time for Round Three

It happened again.  We survived another round of school.  A lot more impressive this year than some as we worked out way through the many logistics of living in a pandemic.  But we did it without a single sick day for the kids.

Now our family is 50% vaccinated and looking forward to a summer full of 'yes' to items that were a 'no' last year.
Summer this year is 76 days long with little brother along for the ride this year.  Masks are still required but that shouldn't stop our fun.  After wearing masks everyday at school, this has become their normal.
So enough preamble, here is what our first day of summer looked like.
Everyone finds their own breakfast in the summer.  Everyone was awake by 8am.  While I attended via Zoom my Friday Bible study, the kids were tasked with putting all their school supplies away.  After doing this myself for many years it was good to pass on that responsibility.
After lunch we went to a playground between rain showers. Typical Indiana weather provided a cold rainy day for the first day of summer break.
Nap and quiet time while I worked on my soap orders.  Then dinner and rush to the ball field for a cold and wind softball game that went into overtime. 

All in all a good first day.  We will get into our rhythm soon enough.  I am looking forward to the next 75 day as we once again 'Journey through Summer'.

Finding the Happy Place

Today our family was in our happy place.  We were all home and in one place for the holiday.  No particular plans besides finding ways to beat the heat.  After a traditional Garner Breakfast (a.k.a. pancakes and Spam) the kids tossed out ideas of what adventure to have that day.  We soon settled on going to Prophetstown for a picnic then time at the Aquatic Center.  Naps almost guaranteed when we returned home. The picnic was a short one. How can you compete with the excitement of the first swimming pool visit of summer?  We weren't the only ones excited.  The line for the pool was out the door and into the parking lot 15 minutes before they even opened. Our daughter was so excited to find out she was tall enough to ride the water slides this year.  She had waited two summers for this moment.  No fear at all as we climbed the stairs.  Her confidence eased my nervousness and the ride down was so fun!  As soon as we finished she was ready to go again. Pass the chocolate

School was in session for the Garner household today.  Mom played the role of tutor, proctor, lunch lady, counselor, tech support, and administrative assistant.  I am sure we will hit our stride in the coming weeks, but this evening Mom needed to self-medicate with some chocolate goodness. The afternoon was a bit better. The sun came out and the kids had fun just digging holes in the garden.  Good 'clean' fun.  We didn't go on our daily walk, as emails of homework kept rolling in.  Hopefully tomorrow we will make it outside a bit.  I think mom needs it as much as the kids. The youngest went back to daycare.  This evening he was really fussy.  I think he missed being home with Mom; although he had a great day at school.  Plans are in place for extra cuddles at bedtime.

What day is it?

A routine is forming here.  School, playtime, homework, chores, etc.  The days still vary though, which make it hard to keep track.  My eldest came racing down the stairs this morning in a panic after I had let him sleep in. He was convinced he had class at 9 this morning when it was actually his off day. yes, keeping track of the days is still a challenge around here. We were able to get away for a little while between Zoom meetings and homework requirements. The smell of Summer was in the air as we weathered on the sunscreen and bug spray. It was good to hike the trail at Prophetstown. They were not quite as many people out compared to the last time we went. But I would say there was still at least 30 people we saw while we were there, plus more cars. I heard good advice today for some things to strive for. Stay hydrated, have a routine, do something each day, get exercise, connect with someone.  I am doing better with some things than others.  I will say that
